Science Bound celebrates success

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
Purdue President France A. Córdova and Indianapolis Public Schools Superintendent Eugene White joined approximately 250 students and supporters of Purdue's Science Bound program at the Indianapolis Children's Museum on Oct. 1 to celebrate the program's continued success. A partnership among Purdue, IPS and Indianapolis business community, Science Bound provides eligible IPS students an opportunity to earn a four-year full-tuition scholarship to study for a science-related career.

The program, which started with 60 students, has grown to more than 250 middle and high school students who participate in after-school activities, field trips and summer camps to enrich their academic experience. Twenty Science Bound graduates attend Purdue as sophomores, while 32 graduates are enrolled in their freshman year.

Science Bound director Wesley Campbell said the program will continue to reach out to IPS students due to continued support from the Indianapolis business community.

"We now have a pipeline of well-prepared future Boilermakers because of the continued generosity of our sponsors and corporate donors," Campbell said. "This program is thriving thanks to their support."
