Historian talks about Thomas Jefferson, slavery

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - An American historian will present "Problematizing Thomas Jefferson's Role in the Enlightenment" at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at Krannert Auditorium as part of Experience Liberal Arts.

Wilson Jeremiah Moses, the Ferree Professor of American History at Pennsylvania State University, will discuss and compare Thomas Jefferson's role as writer, inventor and political philosopher to other 18th and 19th century contemporaries. The event is free and open to the public.

Moses is author of "The Golden Age of Black Nationalism, 1850-1925," "Black Messiahs & Uncle Toms: Social & Literary Interpretations of a Religious Myth," "Creative Conflict in African American Thought," and "The Wings of Ethiopia: Studies in African American Life and Letters."
