Purdue Agriculture grants Spirit of the Land-Grant Mission Award

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The first Spirit of the Land-Grant Mission Award will be presented to Alan Sutton, a professor in the department of animal sciences and nutrient management specialist at Purdue University.

The award celebration will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 1) in the Deans Auditorium of Pfendler Hall.

"Purdue Agriculture created the award to recognize and celebrate the integrated research and Extension approach to address issues," said Sonny Ramaswamy, director of Agricultural Research Programs.

Sutton has conducted research for more than 35 years in livestock nutrition and waste management. He developed a Purdue Extension program on animal waste management, which was the first in the nation created by a university animal sciences department.

During his time at Purdue, he has authored or co-authored more than 150 Extension publications, reports and facts sheets and has helped contribute to the creation of a national curriculum about comprehensive nutrient management planning.

To help further his Purdue Extension and research program, Sutton will receive $10,000 as recipient of the award.

"Alan Sutton exemplifies the spirit of the award through his research and outreach efforts to address questions of importance in nutrient management for the state and nation," Ramaswamy said.
