Purdue Libraries to conduct survey on user satisfaction

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Libraries is asking faculty and students to complete an online survey designed to measure the quality of its services.

Libraries will e-mail the survey to all faculty and students on Oct. 6, and recipients will have until Oct. 26 to participate, said James L. Mullins, dean of libraries.

The survey, called LibQUAL+™, was developed at Texas A&M University and is now offered through the Association of Research Libraries. It is used at many institutions throughout the nation and the world, allowing Purdue Libraries to assess itself compared to other research libraries.

Mullins said the survey provides vital information about user perceptions and will be used to assess and evaluate information resources, services and facilities. The survey also will show where the Libraries excel and where they can be improved.

Purdue first conducted the LibQUAL+™ survey in 2005, and the results helped shape the Libraries current strategic plan. The survey also led to specific improvements, including new digital collections in the Humanities, Social Science, and Education Library, new digital document delivery services, a redesigned Web site and the online megasearch tool that allows users to search for journal articles across multiple databases.

The LibQUAL+™ survey consists of 39 questions. Faculty and students will receive an e-mail with the URL for the Libraries Web form to complete the survey. For more information, visit www.lib.purdue.edu/info/libqual/.
