Workshops to focus on Americans with Disabilities Act
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue's Affirmative Action Office will present four sessions in October examining the Americans with Disabilities Act in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month.The sessions include:
* Oct. 7. 9:30-11:30 a.m. Stewart Center, Room 313. "ADA for Supervisors." The workshop is open to all campus supervisors and will examine what constitutes a disability, how to recognize an employee's request for a reasonable accommodation and what to do next.
* Oct. 16. 1:30-3:30 p.m. Stewart Center, Room 320. "ADA Overview." Participants can learn more about the Americans with Disabilities Act, its history, what the law means and its possible future.
* Oct. 21. 2-3:30 p.m. Stewart Center, Room 307. "ADA Audio Conference." The session will be the first in the 2008-09 audio conference series presented by the Great Lakes ADA and Accessible IT Center. The session is designed to offer individuals advanced information on various Americans with Disabilities Act-related issues.
* Oct. 28. 2-4 p.m. Stewart Center. Room 320. "Drawing the Distinction: Incorporating the ADA and Vocational Rehabilitation Toward Obtaining and Maintaining Employment." This workshop will explain what employers are required to do under the Americans with Disabilities Act and how state vocational rehabilitation can assist employees with obtaining devices and services not covered under the act.
