September 19, 2008 Experience Liberal Arts will feature 50-word story contestWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University graduate and undergraduate students are invited to participate in the Justin S. Morrill Mini-Saga Contest.The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. on Sept. 25, and the top three finalists will read their mini-sagas at noon on Oct. 28 in the Purdue Memorial Union main floor lounge. Monetary prizes for first, second and third place will be given at the finale. The event is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and the college's Student Council and is part of Experience Liberal Arts, a monthlong celebration highlighting the College of Liberal Arts. Registration information is available at https://www.cla.purdue.edu/experience/minisaga/. A mini-saga is a story that is told in exactly 50 words. Purdue's contest is named after Morrill, who was the U. S. senator and authored the Morrill Land-Grant Colleges Act of 1862. The act provided federal funding so states could establish public colleges and universities, such as Purdue. October's Experience Liberal Arts will feature a variety of lectures, films, performances, events and exhibits that reflect the college's ongoing coursework and research in the arts, humanities, and social and behavioral sciences.
