Companies invited to tap into information technology

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University is reaching out to companies who could benefit from Purdue's information technology resources.

Company representatives are invited to the 2008 Information Technology Summit, which will take place from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 20 in Stewart Center, Room 206. Sponsored by Purdue, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. and TechPoint, the summit will showcase Purdue's information technology disciplines and students. Companies also can meet with students during a poster presentation.

"Companies have a critical need for IT staff who are proficient with the latest software development, data management and computer networks," said Victor L. Lechtenberg, vice provost for engagement. "Purdue wants to do what it can to assist companies in addressing this need and help our highly skilled graduates find jobs in Indiana."

Companies can register for the free summit online at https://www.purdue.edu/research/2008ITSummit. The deadline to register is Oct. 15.

The summit will begin with an introductory presentation by Ryan Asberry, IEDC assistant vice president. An industry panel, moderated by Techpoint President and CEO Jim Jay, will discuss information technology industry needs.

"Information technology is emerging as one of Indiana's top industry clusters," Jay said. "Companies need to develop partnerships with universities like Purdue that are educating Indiana's highly skilled work force. This summit provides an easy way to connect."

A  networking lunch and presentations on how to contact Purdue information technology students also will take place. Attendees will receive a booklet highlighting Purdue's information technology centers and institutes.
