September 11, 2008 Purdue concert series to feature several music genresWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Student Union Board is sponsoring an outdoor concert series this month that features a variety of musical styles.The concerts will take place on the Purdue Memorial Union front lawn and are free and open to the public. At 7 p.m. Friday (Sept. 12), Steve Means, a 21-year-old singer, acoustic guitar player and songwriter from Cincinnati, Ohio, will perform. The next concert will take place at 3 p.m. Sept. 20 as part of the Family Day Boilermaker BBQ. Lafayette musician Kyle Bledsoe will present a concert featuring blues, rock and southern rock. During this concert, audience members will be able to purchase lunch. The meal is $11 for adults and $7 for children under 10 and features tortellini salad with fresh vegetables, melon and grape salad with mint and orange, grilled artichokes and white beans, smoked beef brisket, Tandoori-style grilled chicken, black bean burgers, homemade banana pudding and apple rum cake. The final concert will feature Emphasis at 7 p.m. Sept. 25. The group is based out of Crown Point, Ind., and plays original songs and covers of rock songs. The band is made up of three Purdue students, two from West Lafayette and one from Purdue North Central, and one student from Indiana University Northwest. In the case of rain on any of the dates, the concerts will be staged in Union Commons on the ground floor of the Purdue Memorial Union.
