The Association of Financial Professionals has named Joseph B. Hornett, senior vice president, treasurer and COO of Purdue Research Foundation, to its 2008 AFP Honors Program.

Recipients for the honor were chosen from more than 100,000 national corporate financial practitioners from corporations, agencies, government, academia and nonprofits. Selection criteria included current title, professional qualifications and personal achievements. In addition, all practitioners were required to have earned the Certified Treasury Professional/Certified Cash Manager designation.

The winners were acknowledged in the current issue of AFP Exchange magazine and on the Association of Financial Professionals Web site.

Hornett is responsible for managing the affairs of the nearly $1 billion 501(c)3 charitable organization that was founded in 1930 to exclusively serve the interests of Purdue University. He is charged with providing strategic direction and leadership in five mission-critical areas: endowment management, trust administration, real estate operations, technology commercialization and economic development initiatives.

Under Hornett's leadership, the foundation has seen annual patent applications, invention disclosures and royalty income from its technology commercialization efforts increase to record levels. Citing Purdue as a model, a recent report commissioned by the state of Connecticut and prepared by Innovation Associates titled "Accelerating Economic Development Through University Technology Transfer" praised Purdue's technology commercialization program and its business development initiatives.
