• College of Technology at Columbus

— Margaret Ratcliff, a former assistant professor of mechanical engineering technology at the College of Technology at Columbus, has been selected as the first recipient of the Space Port Indiana Pioneer Award. The award recognizes significant contributions made in science and technology that directly affect Space Port's mission.

Space Port Indiana provides military, commercial customers and educational institutions with low-cost access to airspace up to and including the near-space environment. It also offers educational outreach programs to students in K-12 and college an opportunity to explore engineering and aerospace sciences as a career choice. Technology Management Group Inc., based in Carmel, Ind., provides launch services and personnel to Space Port and has funded the Space Port complex in Columbus.

While at Purdue, Ratcliff was involved in research with Brian Tanner, CEO of Technology Management Group, and helped introduce him to the College of Technology's laboratory capabilities in Columbus, which was one of the factors involved in Space Port's decision to locate there.
