More than 800 job hunting Purdue University students are expected to meet with represent-atives from Indiana companies for an Oct. 29 job fair.

Employers can register online for the 11th annual High Tech Job Fair for Indiana Companies at https://www.purdue.edu/jobfair. The event, offered by Purdue's Technical Assistance Program only for in-state companies, will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Purdue Memorial Union ballrooms.

Company representatives can screen candidates during the fair, then interview selected students from 4-8 p.m. The fair also will feature an information session with recruiting tips for high-tech businesses from 9:30-10:15 a.m.

Students with prospective degrees in technology, science, engineering, management and agriculture will be matched with Indiana companies that have high-tech job openings. Sixty-two companies from throughout the state attended the 2007 event.

One graduate who found a job at the 2007 fair is Kevin Christensen, a database administrator for Perpetual Technologies, Inc. in Indianapolis.

"I could not be more grateful for how the high tech job fair launched my career," Christensen said. "Since starting at Perpetual Technologies, I have been exposed to the wide range of database and application design technologies that complement my computer science degree. It is a wonderful work environment, and I cannot think of anywhere I would rather be."

Perpetual Technologies provides database and information systems support to business and government agencies worldwide. Ron Plew, company vice president, said he anticipates meeting more potential employees at this year's fair.

"The High Tech Job Fair was the perfect venue to meet highly-skilled candidates," Plew said.  "Our business grew 28 percent in 2007. Finding enough qualified technology specialists to stay ahead of that growth has been a challenge for us, and the job fair presented us with a tremendous opportunity to meet some very talented, energetic, young professionals."

Randy Hountz, Technical Assistance Program associate director, said the fair provides companies with an efficient and effective way to find the right match for each open job, including full and part-time positions.

"TAP's job fair appeals to companies throughout Indiana by linking them with hundreds of highly skilled students in a single event," Hountz said. "Several companies have been attending every year since we launched the fair in 1997."

The fair is sponsored by the Purdue's colleges of Agriculture, Science, Technology and Engineering, the Krannert School of Management, and Purdue's Center for Career Opportunities. It is open to undergraduate and graduate students from all Purdue campuses.

"We know companies have a variety of hiring needs, and this fair provides access to students from several different majors," Hountz said. "We are confident Purdue can supply top students for any high-tech job."

Established in 1986, the Technical Assistance Program's mission is to help business, industry and government use new technologies to benefit Indiana citizens and improve the state economy. According to the program's 2008 annual report, Purdue faculty, staff and students have worked with more than 8,900 organizations and trained more than 9,400 employees to date. Their efforts have saved or added more than 5,500 jobs and accounted for more than $373 million in increased sales.
