Speaker to discuss use of virtual organizations in engineering, technology education

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - An expert in technology education and former Purdue University researcher will speak Sept. 11 about the potential impact on learning represented by cyberinfrastructure tools, such as virtual organizations.

Krishna Madhavan, assistant professor in the Department of Engineering and Science Education and the School of Computing at Clemson University, will present "Challenges and Opportunities in Creating Virtual Organizations for Engineering and Technology Education Research" at 2:30 p.m. in Stewart Center, Room 202.

Virtual organizations are defined as organized entities that exist only through the Internet.

Madhavan specializes in the development, deployment and assessment of advanced cyberinfrastructure tools in engineering, technology and science curricula.

His talk will focus on problems and possible solutions involved with creating and using virtual organizations in engineering education research.

Madhavan previously was a research scientist at Purdue's Rosen Center for Advanced Computing, where he led the educational technology efforts for the National Science Foundation-funded Network for Computational Nanotechnology.

This year, Madhavan was awarded a National Science Foundation Career Award for his work on learner-centric, adaptive cyber tools and cyber environments in engineering education.
