Krannert's undergraduate program captures spot in top 20 in U.S.News

The Krannert School shares the No. 17 slot with the University of Maryland, the University of Notre Dame and Ohio State University. The Krannert School is tied for No. 9 among business schools at public universities and is now in the top 20 of business schools accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Krannert's undergraduate program also fared well in specialty rankings:

* In productions/operations management, it ranked No. 2 behind MIT and was the top-ranked public university.

* In quantitative analysis/methods it ranked No. 4 behind MIT, University of Pennsylvania and Carnegie Mellon and also was the top-ranked public university.

* In supply chain management/logistics, it moved up one place from last year, to rank No. 9.

* In management information systems, it ranked No. 15.

* In management, it ranked No. 21, tied with Ohio State University.

"We are extremely pleased to have moved up four spots in the U.S.News undergraduate business rankings," said Richard A. Cosier, Krannert School dean and Leeds Professor of Management. "Our position as a top 20 program overall and top 10 program among public universities is a reflection of our continued emphasis on the undergraduate program at the Krannert School.

"It speaks highly of the quality of our faculty, staff, students and alumni in this very competitive marketplace. We also are delighted that our production/operations management ranking, one of the hallmarks of our school, rose a spot to second, behind only MIT, while quantitative analysis remained firmly in the top five."

The top undergraduate business school was the University of Pennsylvania, followed by MIT and the University of California, Berkeley, which was tied with the University of Michigan.

Indiana University's Kelley School of Business ranked No. 11, and the University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business tied for No. 17 with Purdue, the University of Maryland and Ohio State University.

The U.S.News rankings of business schools and specialty programs is based on a survey of deans and senior faculty at undergraduate business programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The schools receiving the most votes are listed.

The Krannert School of Management had 2,746 undergraduate students enrolled during the 2007-08 academic year majoring in management, accounting, industrial management and economics, 623 master's students and 98 doctoral students. It offers master's degrees in management and human resource management; four executive MBAs through a combination of distance-learning and part-time residence on campus; bachelor's degrees in accounting, economics, management and industrial management; and the doctorate.

Earlier this year, U.S.News ranked Krannert School's executive MBA program No. 20 nationally.

In both 2004 and 2005, The Wall Street Journal named Krannert School a No. 1 MBA school. In 2007 Financial Times ranked the Krannert School's MBA program No. 11 worldwide and first in international course experience.

Purdue's overall undergraduate programs ranked No. 26 among public national universities, tied with University of Connecticut, University of Iowa and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Purdue's College of Engineering tied for ninth with Carnegie Mellon for best programs at engineering schools whose highest degree is a doctorate.
