Purdue Memorial Union concerts to feature variety of bands, cuisines

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Memorial Union's annual Summer Concert Series will kick off July 9 and will feature an assortment of musical styles and a wide range of cuisines.

The four concerts, offered at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday from July 9 to July 30, will take place on the front lawn of Purdue Memorial Union. The concerts are free and open to the public.

Dinners, which will include food from a different union restaurant each week, will begin at 5:30 p.m. The meals are $11. Children under age 10 eat free with the purchase of an adult meal.

Seating for the concerts will be limited, so audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

The performance dates and performers are:

- July 9, Michael Kelsey, who plays acoustic guitar music which blends the blues, funk and soul. Flatbreads is providing the food, which includes the "things that make you go hmm" sandwich, brie and apples, Asian chicken salad, toasted bread salad, cookies, brownies, and beverages including water, iced tea and lemonade.

- July 16, W.T. Feaster Band, which plays blues music. Urban Market is providing the food, which includes bacon wrapped and spinach stuffed chicken breast, eggplant parmesan roll-ups, rosemary and garlic potato griddle cakes, mandarin and almond rice pilaf, urban harvest salad, Caribbean bread pudding with rum sauce, and beverages including water, iced tea and lemonade.

- July 23, Baaro, a reggae group. Lemongrass is providing the food, which includes steamed rice, vegetable egg rolls, General Tso's chicken, green curry with pork, sticky rice with mango, and beverages including water, iced tea and lemonade.

- July 30, The PMG, a rock band. LaSalsa will offer gourmet burritos, chile lime salad, gourmet Mexican rice, churros, and beverages including water, iced tea and lemonade.

Purdue Memorial Union and Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union are sponsoring the concert series.

In case of rain on July 9, 23 or 30, the concerts will be held in the Purdue Memorial Union North Ballroom. If there is rain on July 16, the concert will take place in the South Ballroom.
