Purdue grad student wins trip to Italy for WBAA pledge

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A pledge to WBAA Radio paid big dividends for a Purdue University graduate student.

Beth Erickson was the winner of a trip for two to travel to Italy later this year. By making an online contribution to Purdue's public radio stations, WBAA-AM and FM, she was automatically entered into a drawing. Her name then was selected from among contributors across the country.

Erickson, of Crown Point, Ind., is a doctoral student in speech, language and hearing audiology.

A total of 31 Public Broadcasting Service radio and TV stations participated in April's "Public Broadcasting Takes You Places Quick Pledge" drive, which was sponsored by Public Interactive. WBAA received more than $130,000 from over 1,000 pledges in the drive. Nationally, the drive brought in 12,331 online pledges for a total of $1.2 million. Those who made pledges were automatically entered to win the trip.

Erikson and a guest will be traveling to Italy on an eight-day Collette Vacations Rome and Florence Holiday Tour package.
