Purdue ag economist to explain tax reform consequences

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Local government officials must now deal with the largest, most comprehensive reform in property taxes in the last 35 years in this state.

Purdue University agricultural economist Larry DeBoer will explain HEA 1001 and its implications for local government finances during a two-way video presentation that can be viewed at 17 sites around the state from 2-4:30 p.m. Friday (April 25). Those invited to attend include county and local government officials, such as commissioners, mayors, city council members, and town and library board members.

DeBoer will review the changes in property and sales taxes, property tax deductions and credits and calculate which households will pay more and which will pay less. He'll also discuss the consequences and potential revenue losses for local governments.

Reporters who wish to cover the presentation may attend on the West Lafayette campus in the Dean's Auditorium in Pfendler Hall or at any of the other participating sites. Please let local hosts know that you plan to attend. You can reach the local offices at (888) EXT-INFO.

The presentation can also be viewed online with Windows Media Player at mms://video.dis.purdue.edu/agcomm.
