Chao Center quality assurance director appointed to U.S. Pharmacopeia Expert Committee

Joseph G. Stowell of the Chao Center for Industrial Pharmacy & Contract Manufacturing has been appointed to serve on the U.S. Pharmacopeia Expert Committee for Monograph Development: Ophthalmology, Oncology, and Dermatology.

Stowell is the Chao Center's quality assurance director and an adjunct assistant professor in Purdue University's School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He taught at the university for more than 20 years. He was responsible for the undergraduate teaching laboratories in the school for organic, analytical and the integrated laboratory series, as well as writing the laboratory manuals used in those courses. Stowell received his doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of California at Davis.

The Chao Center is located in the Purdue Research Park in West Lafayette, Ind.

About the Chao Center

The Chao Center for Industrial Pharmacy & Contract Manufacturing (https://www.chaocenter.com) opened in 2005 and is an affiliate of Purdue University (https://www.purdue.edu) and the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Purdue. Initiated through a donation to the school from alumni Allen Chao, Ph.D., and his wife, Lee Hwa-Chao, the center is designed to provide a means to educate students in current good manufacturing practices (cGMP), provide pharmaceutical services to the pharmaceutical industry and provide an environment for Purdue faculty to conduct research in a cGMP facility. The center is located in Purdue Research Park where 140 businesses, of which more than 90 are high-tech, employ more than 2,900 people.
