April 3, 2008 Early voting for Indiana primary planned at Purdue UniversityWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Early voting for the May 6 Indiana primary will take place April 17-18 and April 21 at Purdue University.Heather Maddox, co-director of the Tippecanoe County Board of Election and Registration, said students, staff, faculty and the community will be able to vote from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 17-18 under the Stewart Center mural, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 21 at the Materials and Electrical Engineering Building. "We are doing this to make it more convenient for voters to cast their ballots," Maddox said. Maddox said those wishing to vote need to be registered and bring an Indiana Driver's license or ID card, or a U.S. government-issued ID such as a passport or military ID. "A Purdue student ID will not work," Maddox said. "It does not meet all of the objectives the state requires." April 7 is the deadline to register to vote in the May primary. To register in Tippecanoe County, go to the Tippecanoe County Board of Election and Registration office in the Tippecanoe County Courthouse, Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicle license branches, city clerk offices or township trustee offices. For more information on registering to vote or to download a registration form, visit www.in.gov/sos/elections/vote_reg.html Interest in the Indiana primary is up this year because of the tight race between Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination. Former President Bill Clinton campaigned for his wife last week in West Lafayette. Sens. Clinton and Obama have both made appearances in the state over the past few weeks.
