Purdue veterinary students sponsoring cat adoption project

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The third annual Hope for Homeless Cats pet adoption will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (April 5) at Tippecanoe Mall.

The Purdue University student chapter of the American Association of Feline Practitioners is sponsoring the event as a community project in partnership with the Almost Home Humane Society. The society's normal adoption fee will be charged.

Veterinary students hope to find homes for adults cats that would be difficult adoptions for the society, said chapter President Leah Ferguson. In addition, the project will provide helpful information for owners.

"Vet students will show new owners how to care for their pets," she said. "Students emphasize the importance of good nutrition, parasite control, prevention of infectious diseases, management of behavioral issues and regular visits to a veterinarian."

Thirteen cats were adopted at last year's event, and the goal for this year is 15. Up to 20 adult cats may be eligible for adoption.

The event will be held at the Community Court inside the mall near Kohl's.
