Purdue club placed on probation following alcohol violations

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue officials announced on Wednesday (March 26) that a student organization has been placed on probation for violating the university's alcohol regulations.

The Purdue Gymnastics Club was placed on probation after members were found to have made alcohol available to minors, allowed minors to consume alcohol and improperly used a university vehicle by driving the van to a party at which alcohol was made available to minors, according to the Office of the Dean of Students. The violations occurred Jan. 19-20 during a team trip for a competition at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, said Pablo Malavenda, associate dean of students.

Additional sanctions also have been imposed by the Division of Recreational Sports.

Organizations on probation retain the rights and privileges the university grants to groups in good standing but are issued a warning and must adhere to all university regulations. If the organization fails to comply, it will be subject to stricter sanctions, such as a suspension or withdrawal of recognition.

The probationary period will last through Dec. 31, 2008. At its conclusion, the Office of the Dean of Students will conduct a review before the organization is returned to good standing with the university.
