March 17, 2008 Purdue's Black Voices of Inspiration spring concert March 30WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue Black Voices of Inspiration will present their annual spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30, in Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse. This year's theme is "Solid Rock-Sinking Sand."Established in 1975, the Black Voices of Inspiration is committed to performing music of the African Americans. One of four performing arts ensembles from Purdue's Black Cultural Center, the group has a repertoire of spirituals, gospels and contemporary songs of inspiration and passion. The group's 33rd annual spring concert tells the story of a church that becomes the subject of a reality TV show. The show's revelations cause life-changing examinations of reality and faith. Artist in residence Twana Harris wrote much of the original music. The show also will feature new musical compositions by BVOI member Bryant Gilliam, a junior in the Krannert School of Management. "The audience can expect to be moved, inspired and thoroughly entertained," Harris said. "There will be something for everyone." BCC director Renee Thomas is looking forward to the performance. "The audiences have come to expect something new and different every spring, and this year will not be an exception," she said. Tickets are $5 for Purdue students and $7 for the public. Children under 12 receive free admission. Call the Loeb Box Office at (765) 494-3933.
