Purdue event to focus on guide for women's success

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A group of successful women will be featured at the third annual "Own Your Future: A Woman's Guide to Success" program at 7 p.m. Monday (March 17) at Stewart Center's Fowler Hall.

The Purdue Panhellenic Association and the Purdue Women's Resource Office are sponsoring the event, which is designed to address the concerns and questions of junior and senior women as they prepare to graduate and move on to the next stage of their lives. The program is free and open to the public.

Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman, Susan Bulkeley Butler and Purdue President France A. Córdova will speak during the program. Following the speakers, audience members will have the chance to ask questions.

Skillman is Indiana's 50th lieutenant governor and oversees the State Department of Agriculture, the Office of Community and Rural Affairs, the Office of Energy and Defense Development, Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, and the Office of Tourism Development. She also chairs the Indiana Counter Terrorism and Security Council.

Butler is a Purdue trustee, CEO of The Susan Bulkeley Butler Institute for the Development of Women Leaders and author of "Become the CEO of You, Inc.: A Pioneering Executive Shares Her Secrets for Career Success." She retired in 2002 as managing partner for Accenture's Office of the CEO and has endowed a faculty chair in Purdue's Krannert School of Management and in the Institute for Leadership Excellence, as well as a scholarship in the Krannert School.

"Own Your Future" is one of the events emphasizing the role of women that is being offered during Women's History Month in March.
