Workshops emphasize identifying and developing markets

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A workshop to be presented at five sites around the state for producers and food entrepreneurs will focus on marketing strategies and a new tool that can help in the process.

Marketing 101: Using Indiana MarketMaker to Find Food Markets is designed for everyone from buyers looking for specific products to farmers and on-farm retailers, and from restaurant chefs looking for product to community supported agriculture.

The workshops are sponsored by Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service. Producers and businesses will have the opportunity to see facilitators illustrate the tools and resources that MarketMaker provides and demonstrate how producers and businesses can register.

The workshop's dates and information are as follows:

* March 6 from 6-8 p.m. at the Pinney Purdue Agricultural Center in Wanatah, Ind.  For more information and to register, call the Purdue Extension Office in Porter County at (219) 465-3555 or e-mail parkerkj@purdue.edu. Registration is $10 and is payable at the door.

* March 12 beginning at 6 pm. at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Madison, Ind. Preregistration is requested by March 10 but is not required.  For more information and to register, call the Purdue Extension Office in Dearborn County at (812) 926-1189 or e-mail nheld@purdue.edu. Registration is $10 and is payable at the door.

* March 17 at the Dubois County Area Development Corp. in Jasper, Ind. Preregistration is requested by March 15 but is not required. For more information and to register, call the Purdue Extension Office in Perry County at (812) 547-7084 or e-mail mzoglman@purdue.edu. Registration is $10 and is payable at the door.

* March 24 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Crawfordsville, Ind. Preregistration is requested by March 22 but is not required. For more information and to register, call the Purdue Extension Office in Montgomery County at (765) 364-6363 or e-mail luzar@purdue.edu. Registration is $10 and is payable at the door.

* April 19 at 1:30 p.m. (following the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market meeting) at Showers Plaza in the Council Chambers in Bloomington, Ind.  The program is free, but registration is requested by March 17.  For more information and to register, call the Purdue Extension Office in Monroe County at (812) 349-2575 or e-mail afthompson@purdue.edu.
