February 28, 2008 Purdue Research Foundation official to speak to northern Kentucky, southern Indiana business leadersWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
Joseph B. Hornett, Purdue Research Foundation senior vice president, treasurer and COO, will speak at the Venture Club of Louisville's luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Galt House in Louisville. The Purdue Technology Center of Southeast Indiana is currently under construction in New Albany, Ind., and will be dedicated this fall. The facility will provide incubation space for new and expanding companies. The building also includes classroom and laboratory facilities where the Purdue College of Technology will offer a number of additional educational programs in cooperation with Indiana University Southeast. "The new center in southeast Indiana is modeled after our Purdue Technology Center of Northwest Indiana, and we will provide the same kind of support for high-tech businesses and high-paying jobs as we do at our West Lafayette and Merrillville sites," Hornett said. "The business climate in southeast Indiana and northwest Kentucky is growing dramatically, both economically and educationally, and we want to contribute to its success." The New Albany, Ind., area where the center is under construction includes 40 acres of land donated to the Purdue Research Foundation from local business leaders Jane and John Shine. "Jane and John Shine are the founders and owners of the successful electronics company Samtec Inc., and their gift made this new center possible," Hornett said. About Purdue Research Park Purdue Research Park encompasses 591 acres in West Lafayette, Ind., and is home to the largest university-affiliated business incubator complex in the nation. Within the park, 140 businesses, of which more than 90 are high-tech, employ more than 2,900 people. The Association of University Research Parks recognized Purdue Research Park for Excellence in Technology Transfer in 2005, and the park received the organization's Research/Science Park Company of the Year Award of Excellence in 2004.
