Rebecca Shambaugh, a nationally recognized leadership consultant and author, will speak about women in the workplace during a Monday (Feb. 11) lecture at Purdue University.

Shambaugh, who earned a bachelor's degree in communication from Purdue's College of Liberal Arts in 1978, will speak at 3:30 p.m. in Discovery Park's Burton D. Morgan Center, Room 121. The lecture is sponsored by the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence and the College of Liberal Arts.

Shambaugh is the president and chief executive officer of SHAMBAUGH, a company she founded 20 years ago to help leaders of today's businesses overcome obstacles associated with retaining, recruiting and pushing the next generation of leaders through the development pipeline. There, she founded Women in Leadership and Learning, which focuses on the challenges, opportunities and potential barriers women leaders face in their work environment.

During her lecture, Shambaugh will speak about her recently released book, "It's Not a Glass Ceiling, It's a Sticky Floor," in which she illustrates how women can get unstuck, empowered, move up and prosper in their careers. The book draws upon her leadership programs and consulting experiences for women during the past 15 years.

Throughout her career, Shambaugh has coached and worked with senior executives from a variety of Fortune 500 companies on timely leadership areas such as crisis and change management, communications strategies, culture development, human capital development and corporate governance.

She has been featured on National Public Radio and in publications including the New York Times, Washington Post, The Baltimore Sun, USA Today, Washington Business Journal, Fortune Magazine and Entrepreneur Magazine.

The Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence is named after Susan Bulkeley Butler, a retired consulting executive and first female partner at Accenture. She is a 1965 alumnus of the Krannert School of Management and a member of Purdue's board of trustees. The center serves as a catalyst for developing academic leaders of the 21st century. As the Susan Bulkeley Butler Chair for Leadership Excellence, Associate Provost Beverly Davenport Sypher is leading the center's research and education efforts to promote inclusive leadership and coordinate collaborations among academic and business leaders that enhance leadership capacity. The center is an affiliate of the Discovery Learning Center in Purdue's Discovery Park.
