Hair auction to benefit Purdue fraternity member, Riley Hospital

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Several Purdue University students will put their locks on the line during a hair auction Wednesday (Feb. 6) at Stewart Center's Fowler Hall.

Proceeds from the 7-9 p.m. auction will go to a member of Purdue's Farmhouse Fraternity who is being treated at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis for a form of cancer called Hodgkin's disease.

Students from different campus organizations, including fraternities, sororities, cooperative houses and other clubs, will have their hair up for bid, and the winning bidders will have the choice of whether the students have their hair cut or shaved.

Two members from the Purdue University Dance Marathon executive committee will have their heads shaved to benefit an 18-hour dance marathon, which begins at 5 p.m. Feb. 9 and ends at noon Feb. 10 in the Purdue Armory. Dancers can register at https://www.purdue.edu/pudm or donations can be sent to Purdue University Dance Marathon, 128 Memorial Mall, Stewart Center, Box 719, West Lafayette, Ind. 47907. All proceeds from the dance marathon will benefit Riley Hospital for Children.

Kyle A. Pendleton, assistant dean of students and dance marathon adviser, issued a challenge to the Purdue fraternity and sorority community. Pendleton said he will have his head shaved if the fraternity and sorority members can raise an additional $2,000 for the dance marathon and Riley Hospital for Children in his name.
