January 22, 2008 Purdue College of Technology at Richmond to host workshop on problem-solvingWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue College of Technology at Richmond will be the host of a free workshop geared toward business owners and associates that will examine the causes of common problems and outline solutions.The Purdue Technical Assistance Program will offer Problem Solving Basics from 1-4 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Indiana University East campus, Community Room/Whitewater Hall, 2325 Chester Blvd. It is the first in a series of process improvement-related workshops that will be offered through the Purdue Technical Assistance Program in east-central Indiana through the spring. Problem Solving Basics will include a discussion of the root cause of analysis process, as well as problem-solving tools, such as brainstorming, list reduction, cause-and-effect diagrams and the "5 Whys," which is a technique used in the Six Sigma problem-solving approach. Six Sigma focuses on eliminating defects in any process. The workshop will be presented by Rick Ring, Purdue Technical Assistance Program manufacturing specialist. Ring holds several quality-related certifications and is a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt and a certified QMA/EMS lead auditor. The workshop is made possible through a grant to the Purdue Technical Assistance Program from the Economic Development Administration.
