Coulson to receive Purdue's MLK 'Dreamer' award
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Brenda Coulson, director of human resources and cultural programming for University Residences, is the winner of the 2008 Purdue University Dreamer Award, said Alysa Christmas Rollock, vice president for human relations.The Dreamer Award is presented annually to an individual or organization within the Purdue University community whose contributions embody Martin Luther King, Jr.'s vision of service to others and further the university's commitment to diversity.
Coulson has been in her current position since July 1, 2002. She came to Purdue from Elkhart General Hospital, where she worked in human resources. Before that, she worked at Purdue in human resources for more than three years.
"It's an honor and very surprising," Coulson said of the award. "I had no idea. I don't even know who nominated me. I was very surprised when I got the call from Alysa Rollock."
The award will be presented to Coulson during the Martin Luther King, Jr. University Celebration at 7 p.m. Jan. 21 in Loeb Playhouse.
Past recipients of the award include Sally Mason, Mark J. Smith, Klod Kokini, Rene Thomas, Ashley Hornberger, Jane Cassidy, Kenneth Field and Elaine McVay.
