Purdue ROTC run set to honor Prisoners of War, Missing in Action

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Approximately 500 Purdue University ROTC students will take part in a two-mile run on Friday (Sept. 21) in honor of prisoners of war and those missing in action.

The run will take place on National POW/MIA Recognition Day, which is observed across the country on military installations, ships at sea, state capitols, schools and veterans' facilities. The recognition day is always the third Friday in September.

Students from Purdue's Tri-Service ROTC - including the Army, Navy/Marine Corps and Air Force - will meet at 5:45 a.m. at the intramural Gold Field at McCormick Road and Third Street. The run will start at 6:10 a.m.

Air Force Cadet Scott Perrine, Army Cadet Andrew Chung and Navy Midshipman Shane Schnettler will lead the event.

Following the run, ROTC students will be doing 21 push-ups to symbolize the 21-gun salute or the "national salute."
