Rueff Galleries announce upcoming exhibits

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Patti and Rusty Rueff Galleries at Purdue University will open the fall season with a variety exhibits, including shows that feature sculptures, furniture and photographs.

Rueff Galleries, located in the Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts, 552 W. Wood St., are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Gallery exhibits are free and open to the public.

Upcoming exhibits include:

* Sept. 7-13. "Kodak Moments" is an exhibition by artists Fabian Winkler and Shannon McMullen of two large inflatable sculptures, "BLAM" and "GRRR!" The exhibit also includes sketches of the two works and the interactive sound installation "Waves." An opening reception will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 6, and the artists will speak about their work at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 10.

* Sept. 17-28. "Florence Knoll: Defining Modern" features 10 pieces of furniture designed by Knoll that originally exhibited at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. As an architect, interior space planner and furniture designer, she has influenced postwar design.

Knoll's reductive aesthetic, which incorporates light, open spaces furnished with woven fabrics, furniture grouped for informal conversation and brightly colored wall panels resonates in the company's spirit today, said gallery coordinator Lindi Kistler.

David Bright, vice president of communications of Knoll Inc. will speak at three receptions in the galleries at 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 20.

* Oct. 22 to Nov. 2. "Art and Design Faculty Exhibit 2007" will include a collection of current works from the Patti and Rusty Rueff Department of Visual and Performing Arts faculty.

* Nov. 5-23. An exhibition of Islamic architecture curated by David Parrish, professor of art history, will be on display. Included in the exhibition are photographs of Islamic architecture, examples of religious writings and prayer rugs.
