September 5, 2007 Silent auction to benefit Purdue dance marathonWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A silent auction benefiting the Purdue University Dance Marathon will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 6) at the Dick and Sandy Dauch Alumni Center, 403 W. Wood St.Organized by the Purdue Alumni Association and Purdue University Dance Marathon, the auction is free and open to the public. Some of the items up for bid include a signed football by Joe Tiller and the Purdue football team, Indianapolis Colts tickets, gift certificates for local restaurants and museum passes. Dance Marathon is one of the largest student-run fund-raising events and can be found on more than 80 college campuses nationwide, said Katie Doolin, the event's director of public relations. Purdue's Dance Marathon will benefit Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, which is a comprehensive children's hospital with pediatric specialists in every field of medicine and surgery. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Dance Marathon, which will take place at Purdue Feb. 9-10. More than 500 volunteers participated in last year's event, which raised $57,795.82.
