Student organizations to offer information at event

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University students will have a chance to learn about a variety of student organizations on Friday (Aug. 24) at the Activities Bonanza.

The 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. event, formerly known as the Activities Carnival, has been held for more than 30 years, said Agnes Blachut, the Purdue Student Union Board's director of special events.

Dozens of student organizations will have tables set up during the event, and many of the groups will have information available for those interested. Some of the organizations also will perform demonstrations throughout the afternoon.

"There are more than 800 student organizations at Purdue, and this will allow students to get an overview of some of these organizations," Blachut said. "The variety of extracurricular activities that will have booths set up range from ballroom dancing to ministry to fantasy clubs. Students can find a club or organization for just about any interest."

In case of rain, the Activities Bonanza will take place in the Purdue Memorial Union ballrooms and main lounges.

Sponsored by the Purdue Student Union Board, the Activities Bonanza is just one of a variety of activities that will take place at the union on Aug. 24.

The Taste of the Union will take place from 2-4 p.m. on the union's front lawn. The event will offer a free sampling of items from both new and established venues in the union and other vendors.

That evening, the Purdue Varsity Glee Club will perform in the annual First Nighter concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Purdue Memorial Union ballrooms. It is free and open to the public.

Students can attend the free Welcome Back Bash beginning at 9 p.m. on the union front lawn. Sponsored by the Purdue Student Union Board, the event will include a variety of activities such as games, crafts, music and free food.
