Event to highlight new flavors of Purdue Memorial Union

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Flavors from Purdue Memorial Union's new restaurants will be among the items available at the Taste of the Union, 2-4 p.m. Aug. 24.

The 11th annual event, held on the Union's front lawn, will offer a free sampling of items from both new and established venues in the union, said Carol Houston, Purdue Memorial Union marketing manager.

"Each of our six new concepts will offer samples at the event, as well as regular favorites such as Pappy's Sweet Shop, Oasis and Starbucks," Houston said. "Attendees also can sample items from the union's seven satellite restaurants that are located in buildings across campus."

Other items, such as Krispy Kreme doughnuts and Odwalla, Rockstar and Nesquick drinks also will be offered at the event. Radio station B102.9 will broadcast live from Purdue Memorial Union's lawn, Houston said.

The Taste of the Union is just one of a variety of activities that will take place at the union on Aug. 24.

Students will be able learn about campus organizations at the Activities Bonanza from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. between the union and Stewart Center and in Academy Park.

That evening, the Purdue Varsity Glee Club will perform in the annual First Nighter concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Purdue Memorial Union ballrooms. It is free and open to the public.

Students can attend the free Welcome Back Bash beginning at 9 p.m. on the union front lawn. Sponsored by the Purdue Student Union board, the event will include a variety of activities such as games, crafts, music and free food.
