Student engineer teams to race concrete boats, fly concrete discs

The teams for the American Society of Civil Engineers competition are from Purdue; Notre Dame University, South Bend, Ind.; University of Illinois, Champaign, Ill.; University of Illinois-Chicago; Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Ind.; University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wis.; Milwaukee School of Engineering; Marquette University, Milwaukee; Bradley University, Peoria, Ill.; University of Evansville, Evansville, Ind.; University of Southern Indiana, Evansville; Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, Ind.; and Tri-State University, Angola, Ind.

This year's teams also will compete in a concrete Frisbee contest and construct a steel bridge and balsa wood tower. Building contests are timed and graded for performance and aesthetics.

Journalists can begin coverage of the contest at 8 a.m. at the lake at the intersection of U.S. 52 West and North Ninth Street in Lafayette, Ind.

Video highlights from the contest will be available via satellite uplink after the contest from 4-4:15 p.m. ET on Friday (April 27).
