Scholarships available for adult nontraditional students at Purdue

Four scholarships are available for adult undergraduate students at Purdue through the Span Plan Adult Student Services program in the Office of the Dean of Students.

Scholarship applications and requirements are available in the lobby of Schleman Hall of Student Services, in Room 207, and online at http://www.purdue.edu/odos/spanplan/services.php.

The first three scholarships listed below require a personal essay and letters of reference.

* The Helen B. Schleman Scholarship is named for the former dean of women and founder of the Span Plan Adult Student Services Program. Admitted adult undergraduate students must enroll in a minimum of six credit hours and maintain a 2.2 GPA. Students may renew this scholarship each year until graduation as long as the eligibility criteria are met. The scholarship is for $1,000 or more, and the deadline for applications is Feb. 1.

* The Peggy Sullivan Achievement Award, named for a former Span Plan director, is for full-time continuing adult nontraditional undergraduate students who maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. The award is for $1,000, and the deadline for applications is Feb. 15.

* The Office of the Dean of Students Nontraditional Student Scholarship is open to degree and non-degree seeking students. It is a $1,000 scholarship, and the deadline for applications is March 1.

* The Linda Hurd Ewing Memorial Scholarship, named for a former associate dean of students, is presented to students who best exemplify the characteristics and qualities that were important to Ewing: leadership, integrity, scholarship and the ability to communicate well with all ages. Students must be nominated for this scholarship. To receive a nomination form, contact Danita Brown at 49-41245 or dmbrown@purdue.edu. The deadline for this scholarship is Feb. 13.
