This week's 'Thumbs Up' recipients

"Thumbs Up" gives faculty and staff the chance to recognize others on campus for a job well done.

This week's "Thumbs Up" go to:

Phyllis Wenrick and Marci Trippett: I would like to extend a two "Thumbs Ups" to Phyllis and Marci, Mann Hall custodians for Building Services. They always do without questioning, are always ready to address problems and are always quick to respond when needed. They keep Mann Hall a welcoming sight to anyone entering the building for any occasion. They each have two buildings to maintain on a daily basis, yet are always easy to locate when a problem arises. We have experienced and will experience future customer changes in the coming months and I know, without a doubt, all vacant rooms will be ready for their new tenants when they arrive. Thank you both for setting a good example, to follow. -- Cathy Madary

Fevi Magallanes: Fevi Magallanes is one of our service staff members at Hillenbrand Hall. She has come up with a great idea in the use of our paper towel dispensers, which will keep our paper towel waste down, improve customer service and save us money. She discovered that if the paper towel dispenser is low, you can place the smaller roll into the back of the dispenser, allowing it to still feed through the roll. You could then place the new roll of paper towels into the top and place the ends into the two slots. By doing this, you would be able to use the entire old roll and you would then be able to feed the new roll through by just turning the knob.

Fevi shared this with the rest of our service staff team. It was such a good idea that we have implemented it in our work process. Way to go, Fevi, for being such a great team player and taking the initiative to make things better. Employees like you do make a difference. -- Marilyn Trinkle and Reta Dispennett

Brad Peart: I would like to nominate Brad Peart from Business Services Computing for going the "extra mile" to find out how to fix a problem with my e-mail account. If someone e-mailed me, it bounced back saying that my e-mail was no longer valid. It was becoming quite frustrating for my staff and for me. When others believed it couldn't be fixed, he researched articles and figured out what to do. Through this nomination, I would like to express my appreciation to Brad with a big "Thumbs Up"! -- Lucia Anderson

Linda Chadwell: I would like to thank Linda Chadwell for everything she has done. She is very organized, kind, and fun to work with. She is moving on to retirement! I wish her good luck and a big "Thumbs Up" to Linda for her service at Purdue. She will be missed by all! -- Kathy Summerfield

Jeff Cooper: I would like to thank Jeff Cooper, elevator systems specialist, for taking a leading role in repairing a Stanley Coulter back dock freight elevator. This freight elevator was a hazardous area for delivery personnel and pedestrians. Jeff has led a project that brought this elevator to modern safety standards. Thank you, Jeff, for making a difference! -- Elena Cool

Kelly Garrett: I would like to give Kelly Garrett a huge "Thumbs Up." When it comes to solving problems that seem monumental, it takes her about five minutes to work through the issue and provide feedback. I honestly could not imagine the department without her. Thanks, Kelly! Everything that you do is greatly appreciated! -- Shaneka Lawson
