October 19, 2009 Update: Traffic, parking disruptionsHere are notes on some current and upcoming disruptions on the West Lafayette campus. Weather conditions play a significant role in progress on some projects. -- At the intersection of Steven Beering Drive/Russell Street and Stadium Avenue, a City of West Lafayette project involves closure of one the eastbound lanes of Stadium Avenue. The project calls for concrete work at the southeast and southwest corners and then milling and repaving of the total intersection along with about 75 feet of Russell Street south of the intersection. -- At the intersection of Russell and Third streets, lane restrictions are to be expected today and Tuesday (Oct. 19-20). Workers will be applying an anti-slip coating to steel plates. For questions or concerns, contact Bob Gillespie at 49-44985. -- Additional construction traffic for the Roger B. Gatewood Wing of the Mechanical Engineering Building, calling for greater caution by pedestrians and vehicles, is expected to begin today (Oct. 19). This traffic will be steel deliveries on very long trucks. They are expected to use the normal approach to the site coming from State Street through Centennial Mall. … … Today also was the scheduled date for a second crane to arrive. -- A section of sidewalk near the southeast corner of Pao Hall was to be closed this morning (Oct. 19) for installation of a sculpture. Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/pao_sculpture.pdf. -- The sidewalk east of the Discovery Learning Research Center was to be closed this morning and until 3 p.m. -- Along the east side of Northwestern Avenue, from Northridge Drive to Lindberg Road, Vectren will replace a gas main at some time during October. Lane closures are expected during this work. Northridge is roughly across Northwestern Avenue from the north end of Mollenkopf Athletic Center. Information is from Physical Facilities reports.
