This week's 'Thumbs Up' recipients

"Thumbs Up" gives faculty and staff the chance to recognize others on campus for a job well done.

This week's "Thumbs Up" go to:

Kathy Summerfield: We'd like to give a very sincere thank you to Kathy Summerfield for everything that she does for us. She makes the life of everyone that she works with, easier and more pleasant, even the people she doesn't work with directly and that don't know she exists. We are forever grateful for everything that she does. -- Brett Satoski and Lindsey Ackerman

Cher Yazvac, Stephanie Farlow, Susan Hychka, Lisa Lambert Snodgrass and Sally Harmon: Cher Yazvac, Stephanie Farlow, Susan Hychka, Lisa Lambert Snodgrass and Sally Harmon are nominated for "Thumbs Up" awards for their efforts to help ensure that nearly 1,100 students received personalized resume assistance over a three-day period immediately prior to the Industrial Roundtable. Cher spearheaded the overall organizational effort, Susan recruited representatives from six corporations to assist with the resume critiques and Stephanie provided guidance and mentorship to the Center for Career Opportunities' interns and ambassadors to provide peer assistance. A special thanks is extended to Sally and Lisa who responded to a request of CCO Partnership Council members and lent their able hands to this important effort. -- Tim Luzader

Toni Munguia and Susan Martinez Manahan: Thanks to Toni Munguia and Susan Martinez Manahan of the Technology Diversity Office for keeping their web pages wholesome. They made sure that our young charges get access only to appropriate community information in keeping with Purdue values. More folks should be aware of the compromises you had to make to get that job done. -- Mike Sloothaak

Don Sigman: We'd like to give a huge Thumbs Up" to Don Sigman of Lilly Hall. He always delivers our numerous parcels and boxes with a smile, and goes out of his way to make sure that everything is placed in the best location for us. -- The Indiana State Poultry Association

Leslie Gray and Deb Stillabower: I would like to give a "Thumbs Up" to Leslie Gray and Deb Stillabower at the front desk of Freehafer. They not only provide a great service to everyone in our building, but they also take care of so many people from all across campus. You can always get a smile from them, and if you like there is usually a piece of candy waiting for you too. -- Teresa Rohler

Kevin Sowinski: Kevin has gone above the call of duty by supplying IT support in our department. This is not in his job description — he just helps out anyone who needs it. He has spent many days working on IT issues, sacrificing time he needs for his own job priorities. We truly couldn't do it without him. Thanks, Kevin! -- Steve Abel and the Department of Pharmacy Practice in Indianapolis

Daryl Townsend and the Electronic Shop PIC Team: I would like to submit a "Thumbs Up" to crew chief Daryl Townsend and the Electronic Shop PIC Team. This team was instrumental in providing quick service for a high-priority network PIC installation, and the turnaround for completion was less than one business day. Kudos to this team and a big thank you for a job well done! -- Jessica Harvey

Howard Zelaznik: I would like to applaud Professor Howard Zelaznik's thoughtful and articulate responses to the questions during the interview "Senate's new chair stresses importance of faculty voice, governance," which was featured in Purdue Today on Sept 28. I like what he said about his willingness to provide "excellent perspective and leadership" for the Senate. I cannot agree more with him that "faculty have an obligation to be serious about faculty governance." Professor Zelaznik has the experience, interest, and leadership qualities to serve as a chair of the Senate. I wish him and his colleagues a productive and fruitful term. -- Abdelfattah Nour

Purdue Memorial Union Catering Office: The Office of Special Events would like to nominate the Purdue Memorial Union Catering Office for a "Thumbs Up." The effort they put forth in making sure that our President’s Council members had an enjoyable weekend was outstanding. Thank you for providing great food and Purdue spirit to our events! -- Office of Special Events

Purdue Police: A huge thank you to all of the Purdue Police officers for helping keep traffic moving at the intersection of McCormick Road and Cherry Lane. My drive to and from work at Purdue would be much longer due to construction if not for you. -- Cindi Stinebaugh
