Update: Traffic, parking disruptions

Here are notes on some current and upcoming disruptions on the West Lafayette campus.

Weather conditions play a significant role in progress on some projects.

-- North of Wetherill Laboratory, the drive between Wetherill (WTHR) and the North Heating and Power Plant (HPN) is to close through Dec. 9 for a project. An alternative pedestrian path will be created and signage will be posted. The parking lot east of HPN and south of ENAD will remain accessible. -- At the west main entrance of Lilly Hall (facing State Street), part of the entrance is to be closed through Oct. 23 for installation of an access ramp.

-- Sidewalks between Peirce Hall and Stanley Coulter Hall are to be closed for excavation work on a sewer through Tuesday.

-- On the east side of Young Hall, the sidewalk is to be closed for repairs today and Tuesday. This follows completion of the Young Hall recladding project.

-- The southeast stairwell of the University Street Parking Garage, at Second and University streets, is to be closed for repairs today and Tuesday, reopening Wednesday.

-- At North University Drive and Tower Drive, work on the Cary Quad chimney will close the sidewalk and intermittently close Tower Drive. The Tower Drive close is expected to occur for two hours Tuesday morning while a crane moves. Vehicles will be routed through the "A" parking lot between Tower Drive and Ross-Ade Stadium.

-- On Steven Beering Drive, the right turn lane onto Tower Drive is to close all of this week for installation of a new drain in the curb line and connection of that drain with catch basin in the street.

-- Ross-Ade Drive is to be closed today (Oct. 12) for milling for speed bumps by Grounds crews.

-- At the intersection of Steven Beering Drive/Russell Street and Stadium Avenue, a City of West Lafayette project involves closure of one the eastbound lanes of Stadium Avenue. The project calls for concrete work at the southeast and southwest corners and then milling and repaving of the total intersection along with about 75 feet of Russell Street south of the intersection.

-- Additional construction traffic for the Roger B. Gatewood Wing of the Mechanical Engineering Building, calling for greater caution by pedestrians and vehicles, is now expected to begin Oct. 19. This traffic will be steel deliveries on very long trucks. They are expected to use the normal approach to the site coming from State Street through Centennial Mall. … … Oct. 19 also is the scheduled date for a second crane to arrive.

-- Along the east side of Northwestern Avenue, from Northridge Drive to Lindberg Road, Vectren will replace a gas main at some time during October. Lane closures are expected during this work. Northridge is roughly across Northwestern Avenue from the north end of Mollenkopf Athletic Center.
