Staff training available on generational diversity in the workplace

The Diversity Resource Office has announced fall dates for its professional development program, which features a component on generational differences in the workplace.

"What's Age Got to Do With It? Generational Diversity in the Workplace," a two-hour, interactive training workshop, is scheduled on the following dates:

* Wednesday (Sept. 30). 9-11 a.m. Room 318, Stewart Center.

* Nov. 12. 1-3 p.m. Room 320, Stewart Center.

Participants may register by downloading a registration form from the Diversity Resource Office Web site, www.purdue.edu/dro/DiversityatWork.shtml.

The goal of the workshop is to enhance the ability of participants to communicate and collaborate effectively across generational differences.

For the first time in U.S. history, four distinct generations find themselves sharing space in offices, labs, and conference rooms. Although this generational mix can be a source of productivity, generational differences also present specific challenges.

Participants in this workshop will gain awareness of generational differences and explore the generational dynamics that affect how we think about key workplace issues such as communication, collaboration, technology, and what it means to be a "good" employee.
