September 14, 2009 Teaching Academy induction set for WednesdayExcellence in teaching will be celebrated Wednesday evening (Sept. 16) in the annual Teaching Academy Induction and Recognition Ceremony. All members of the Purdue community are welcome to attend. The ceremony will be at 7:30 p.m. in the East and West Faculty Lounges of Purdue Memorial Union. Gerry McCartney, vice president for information technology and chief information officer, will offer remarks. A wine and cheese reception will precede the program at 7 p.m. The Teaching Academy, composed of about 200 active and retired scholar-teachers at Purdue, works for continual improvement of teaching at the University. It sponsors a variety of programs including mentoring and workshops. The ceremony will honor nine Teaching Academy fellows from the ranks of the faculty and five associate fellows from among nominees who are graduate teaching assistants, instructors or other teaching staff. Others to be recognized are outgoing and incoming members of the academy's Executive Council.
