This week's 'Thumbs Up' recipients

"Thumbs Up" gives faculty and staff the chance to recognize others on campus for a job well done.

This week's "Thumbs Up" go to:

Bret Turner and his crew: I would like to thank Bret Turner and his crew (aka the "Bull Gang") for their hard work in helping move Liberal Arts IT from Peirce Hall to Recitation Hall on Aug. 11. The crew moved our many office items, desks, filing cabinets and work benches with ease and precision, and were patient with us while we worked through a few last-minute snafus. It was a hot and humid day and the air conditioning was not yet functioning in our new fourth floor office space, yet the crew worked diligently to move our items and place them in the correct locations. Thank you for your hard work and effort! -- Kristie Bishop

Purdue Alumni staff and PASE students: Thumbs up to the Purdue Alumni staff and PASE students for putting together a great Legacy Picnic for alumni with freshmen entering Purdue! Special thanks to President Córdova for attending on Aug. 16 and engaging the parents in conversation! -- Nicki Meneley

Maggie Grogan: Maggie Grogan truly deserves a "Thumbs Up" for her dedication to the Clerical and Service Staff Advisory Committee. She completed her three-year term on CSSAC in August, serving as chair this past year. She goes beyond the call of duty in her dedication to the clerical and service staff, as well as the entire Purdue community.

Under Maggie's leadership, CSSAC has been involved in numerous University initiatives such as the establishment of the staff memorial, and is greatly involved in the new Training and Career Development Steering Committee. Within CSSAC, she was instrumental in bringing all the regional campus CSSAC members together at West Lafayette to share and exchange ideas and concerns for our constituents and also helped establish the first APSAC/CSSAC joint meeting. Maggie has consistently offered support and encouragement to CSSAC members in their representative roles.

CSSAC will definitely miss Maggie Grogan, but her contributions are ongoing and she has assured us of her continued support if we have questions or concerns. Thank you, Maggie! -- Clerical and Service Staff Advisory Committee

Gebisa Ejeta: My heartfelt congratulations go to Professor Ejeta for a well-deserved recognition, the World Food Prize! Dr. Ejeta has been working diligently on food crops (sorghum and millet) that are desperately needed by millions in many developing countries. Animals, especially poultry, benefit from his work, and that makes eggs and poultry meat also available for the consumers. Sorghum and millet are not only sources of leavened bread, porridges, and other foods, but also a source of many nutritional beverages and drinks that quench the thirst and provide nutrients, including vitamins. Congratulations, Professor. You also deserve the Nobel Prize! --Abdelfattah Nour
