August 13, 2009 Last day for farmers market near DauchToday is the last day of the season to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, homemade crafts and other items at the farmers market on the West Lafayette campus. The market will be held 3-6:30 p.m. at the corner of Sheetz and Wood streets, just west of the Dick and Sandy Dauch Alumni Center. The Lafayette Farmers Market Farmers and Sagamore West Farmers Market are still open this season. Lafayette Farmers Market is open 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays through Oct. 31 on Fifth Street between Main and Columbia streets in downtown Lafayette. After the Purdue market closes for the season, the Lafayette market will open 4-7 p.m. on Thursdays. The Sagamore West Farmers Market is open 3-6:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Oct. 28 at Cumberland Park on Salisbury Street, West Lafayette. Saturday (Aug. 15) will be Purdue Day at the Lafayette Farmers Market. Besides Purdue-themed dress and decor, the morning will feature several activities -- 10-11 a.m., Big Bass Drum on display; 10:30-11:30 a.m., Purdue Pete available for photographs and autographs; 11 a.m.-noon, demonstrations by featured twirlers (Golden Girl, Girl in Black, Silver Twins). Also, there will be book signing by Angie Klink, local author of Purdue-themed stories "Purdue Pete Finds His Hammer" and "I Found U," at 9:30-11:30 a.m. The morning also is to include music by the Dulcimer Gathering from 10 a.m. to noon, plus activities celebrating the 150th anniversary of air mail, which began in 1859 with a balloon flight from Lafayette. As always, a variety of fruits, vegetables, baked goods, other edibles and items such as flowers and crafts will be for sale.
