Update: Traffic, parking disruptions

Here are notes on some current and upcoming disruptions on the West Lafayette campus. In this issue, this summary provides reminders of previously announced disruptions as the second module of summer session opens.

-- The Y-shaped intersection near Elliott Hall of Music and the Armory is now a three-way stop.

-- At the Gatewood Wing construction site alongside the Mechanical Engineering Building, heavy vehicles are approaching from Grant Street via Central Drive and around Potter Engineering Center, then exiting via Third Street past Elliott Hall of Music. Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/Gatewood_reroute.pdf. This approach to the site is to continue for another week. Then the main approach will switch to coming from State Street at Marsteller Street, coming north on Memorial Mall Drive and past Wetherill Laboratory of Chemistry and the Bell Tower. The exit path will continue to be westward on Third Street.

-- North University Drive will close to vehicles from Stadium Avenue to Victory Drive through June 26. Sidewalks will remain open to pedestrian traffic. Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/Stadium_to_Victory.pdf.

-- Also in the area of the Mackey Arena project, the sidewalk along the west side of Northwestern Avenue is closed until Nov. 1, as is the sidewalk along the east side of North University Drive near Mackey and Lambert Fieldhouse. An east-west walk immediately north of Lambert is open.

-- In Academy Park, limestone restoration is under way and is scheduled to continue until the start of fall semester. Caution is advised in the area.

-- The north entrance of Stewart Center, facing Academy Park, is closed until fall semester for upgrades to the ADA ramp and access door.

-- On the east side of Brown Laboratory of Chemistry, the sidewalk is closed until the start of the fall semester.

-- The south half of the Northwestern Street Garage is closed through Aug. 2 for major repairs and cleaning by the contractor.  The north half is set up for two-way traffic, requiring slow traffic and considerable caution. Details about entrances and exits are at http://news.uns.purdue.edu/insidepurdue/2009/090514_NWgarage.html.

-- Parking garage cleaning: At the Wood Street Garage, cleaning is to continue through Tuesday (June 16). Work is being done from 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. Next is the north half of the University Street Garage, scheduled for June 17-26.

-- Crews are completing restoration work to the underground utility tunnel between Hovde Hall (east side) and the Class of 1939 Water Sculpture on Purdue Mall. Pedestrian access to the front steps of Hovde continues.

-- At Young Hall, as part of the recladding project, fencing along the northern one-third of the building's east side has restricted traffic. The diagonal sidewalk from the northeast entrance is closed and the circular drive (underneath the carport) is closed to vehicular traffic. No exits are blocked and the sidewalk running parallel to Grant Street is not be blocked. Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/young_hall.pdf.
