Researchers in various studies looking for participants

Here is a list of research studies that currently are looking for study participants.

Carotenoid absorption study

Adults ages 18-50 are still needed for a Purdue study on carotenoid absorption from vegetables.

Participants in the 66-day study conducted by professor Wayne Campbell in Purdue's Department of Foods and Nutrition will be asked to consume a controlled diet for three seven-day periods. They also will complete three days of testing that will take about 12 hours each at Purdue's Stone Hall.

Participants' measurements, including blood carotenoid levels and cholesterol levels, will be taken.

Compensation for completing the study is $500.

Those interested must be healthy, a non-smoker, premenopausal, non-diabetic, and not using hormone-based contraceptives. For more information, call 765-496-6480 or e-mail carotenoidstudy@purdue.edu.

Heart failure patients or caregivers

A Purdue study on people with heart failure is looking for individuals age 18 and older who either have heart failure or who take care of someone who has heart failure.

The principal investigators for this study are Kimberly S. Plake, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, and Karen S. Yehle, assistant professor of nursing.

Eligible participants will be asked to fill out three questionnaires, taking about 15 minutes.

Study on kindergarten transition

A research study focusing on how caregivers and children talk about the transition to kindergarten is looking for individuals whose children are about to start kindergarten in August 2009.

The caregivers must be at least 18 years old and have conversational English fluency to participate in the study.

The principal investigator is Steven R. Wilson, professor in the Department of Communication.

Participation in this study involves 1) allowing yourself and your child to be videotaped while talking about kindergarten and reading a book about starting kindergarten, 2) filling out a survey about you and your child and any preparation you have done for kindergarten, and 3) deciding whether or not a set of behaviors describes your child.

Compensation is $40 split over two sessions. Each session will take up to two hours to complete.
