Undocumented students focus of two webinars

Administrators and faculty are invited to a pair of webinars about undocumented students in June at Purdue and Ivy Tech Lafayette.

"Undocumented Students: An Overview of Policies, Myths, and Best Practices," which will include an update on the DREAM Act, will be at 1-3:30 p.m. June 17 in Room 1010, Neil Armstrong Hall.

The DREAM Act (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act) is a bill before Congress that in part encourages qualified undocumented high school graduates to continue their education with temporary residency.

The presenter will be Paz Maya Olivérez, executive director and founder of Futuros Educational Services, a nonprofit organization that provides college preparatory services to low-income and immigrant youth and professional development for educators.

Discussion regarding Purdue and Ivy Tech concerns will follow the webinar.

Another webinar, "Guiding Undocumented Students: Discovering Funding Opportunities and Developing Support Programs that Work," will be at 1-3:30 p.m. June 24 in the NCHS Auditorium at Ivy Tech.

The webinars are being coordinated by Purdue's Latino Cultural Center and Ivy Tech Lafayette. For more information, contact LCC at 49-42530 or go to www.Purdue.edu/LCC
