In other business, John Shipley, interim vice president for business services and assistant treasurer, reported to APSAC on efforts to encourage employees to use direct deposit for their pay. Shipley said the H1N1 outbreak prompted discussion on how to pay employees if they could not come to campus to pick up a paper check.

"We want to be sure that people are paid on time," he said. "If staff are entitled to pay, we want to make sure they receive that pay in all circumstances."

About 1,500 employees receive paper checks.

APSAC also heard reports from Jim Layman, medical benefits manager in Human Resource Services, on 2010 health plan options and from Cheryl Laszynski, WorkLife program manager, on the Employee Assistance Program.
