Panel discussion to focus on applications of common reading selection

As Purdue prepares to initiate its first common reading effort, a panel discussion will be held today (May 14) to focus on how the selected book can be incorporated into courses and other activities.

"Curricular and Co-Curricular Applications for the Common Reading" is scheduled for 3-4 p.m. in Room 322, Stewart Center. The book selected for common reading is "Stealing Buddha's Dinner" by Bich Minh Nguyen, associate professor of English at Purdue.

The session will be facilitated by Jim Pukrop, senior assistant director of Student Access, Transition and Success Programs. Panelists are:

* Barbara Dixon, associate dean, College of Liberal Arts.

* Robin Clair, professor of communication.

* Jenna Laub, senior assistant director of Student Access, Transition, and Success Programs.

* Pablo Malavenda, associate dean of students.

* Christie Sahley, professor of biological sciences and associate dean, College of Science.

* Julie Talz, director of residential life.

Those who attend will be able to engage in discussion about how they can incorporate the book into what they teach and/or other activities in which students are involved at Purdue. Materials distributed by the panelists will be shared electronically with the broader Purdue community following the session.
