H1N1 influenza outbreak prompts commencement change

Due to the recent outbreak of H1N1 influenza (swine flu), Purdue will take precautionary measures during commencement ceremonies May 15-17 on the West Lafayette campus.

Upon accepting their diplomas, instead of a congratulatory handshake graduates will be recognized with a tip of the hat.

The decision to forgo the traditional handshake is based on recommendations from Indiana State Health Commissioner Dr. Judith Monroe.
