Update: Traffic, parking disruptions

Here are notes on some current and upcoming disruptions on the West Lafayette campus.

-- Effective today (May 4), along South Russell Street south of Harrison Street, the site clearing and site preparation project will begin for the relocated pesticide, greenhouse, and grounds buildings. Increased construction traffic will be entering off South Russell just to the west of the Materials Management and Distribution building. Use caution in this area. On Tuesday (May 5) at the Wood Street Parking Garage, a broken pane of glass is to be repaired in the center stair tower, starting at 8 a.m., weather permitting. The replacement is expected to take two hours.The Grant Street entrance of the parking garage will not be available during that time.

-- Currently, CityBus will not be able to pick up passengers in front of the terminal at the Purdue Airport, due to construction of the Niswonger Aviation Technology Building. Buses will instead use the Student Lot north of the railroad tracks on the east side of Airport Road for dropoff and pickup. This change is allowing crews to remove the pavement just south of the railroad tracks and install new pavement. The back gate will be opened to allow traffic and service to AERO east of NISW. The contractor will install temporary access just west of the existing entrance for emergency vehicles and car access only. This situation is expected to conclude May 8.

-- The High Voltage Project will begin work near Smith Hall on or about May 18. For updated HVP information and maps, go to www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/HVP.

Parking garages

-- The south half of the Northwestern Street Garage will be closed May 18-Aug. 2 for major repairs and cleaned by the contractor.  The north half will be two-way traffic.

-- The summer cleaning schedule for parking garages calls for Building Services to clean between 10:30 p.m. and 7 a.m. as follows:

* June 7-16: Wood Street Garage.
* June 17-26: University Street Garage (north half).
* June 28–July 2: University Street Garage (south half).
* July 5–20: Northwestern Street Garage (north half).
* July 21-26: Marsteller Street Garage.
* July 27-Aug. 6: Grant Street Garage. The garage will remain open. It will be cleaned one half at a time starting with the top three levels. 

Building Services may need to adjust the starting and stopping dates for each garage, based on weather, resources, and equipment.  Changes to the schedule will be communicated.
